Naturopathic Medicine : Laura Washington, ND
Doctor Laura Washington follows the naturopathic principle of using the least invasive therapy that will bring about the best possible state of health. We first look for the contributing causes of your illness and work to remove these rather than giving remedies to manage your symptoms. This approach restores your body’s ability to maintain healthy balance on its own, and respond to your other efforts to promote health and wellbeing.
Nutrition Response Testing (NRT) is a neuromuscular testing technique that is used to uncover these underlying causes of disease and determine the appropriate therapeutic approach. NRT is highly effective in addressing issues such as weight gain, hormnal imbalance, chronic pain, headaches, allergies, digestive issues, skin eruptions, mental acuity, cardiovascular health, fatigue, and frequent colds or infections.
Dr. Washington is licensed in the state of Oregon, and received her doctor of naturopathic medicine from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) in Portland. She has served as adjunct faculty at NCNM and Lewis and Clark College. She is founder of The Art of Health, Inc., a company providing herbal teas and other natural therapies, and author of the inspiring resource book for healthful living Herbal Medicine for Health and Well-Being.

Herbal Medicine
Herbs provide deep nourishment, cleanse the body of poisons and toxicity, support immunity, balance the nervous system, and support optimal functioning of adrenal glands, and other internal organs. Like foods, herbs can be used to support health and wellness, or to treat specific illness. Medicines that utilize plants in their whole form, such as herbal teas or whole plant extracts, provide medicines that are naturally balanced, generally low in toxicity, and that minimize side effects.
Nutrition
The importance of good nutrition is seriously underestimated in modern culture. Common symptoms such as fatigue, anxiety, depression, skin rashes, allergies, muscle cramps and spasms, poor memory and difficulty concentrating can all be caused by poor intake or assimilation of nutrients. Optimizing digestion is therefore key in experiencing vibrant health. Individualized nutritional counseling utilizing food and whole food supplements, is used to optimize health and wellness, as well as used therapeutically to treat illness.
Bodywork
Bowen technique works with muscles and tendons to restore balance and ease to the body. It is an ideal Naturopathic therapy as it involves minimal intervention, while effectively supporting the body in bringing about its own healing. The technique consists of precise, yet light movements that re-set muscle, tendon, circulatory, and nervous system tone bringing about harmony and balance. Bowen is a very effective therapy for musculokeletal pain and injuries, headaches, TMJ, asthma, hayfever, colds, back pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, digestive complaints, and many other conditions.
Cleanse and Detoxification Programs
A cleansing and detoxification program is a useful place to start when trying to improve your overall health or to address a specific chronic health concern such as allergies, asthma, eczema, digestive complaints, migraine headaches, joint pain, blood sugar or hormonal imbalance, or lack of energy. It is also useful support in breaking addictions to cigarettes, caffeine, and refined sugar. Dr. Washington supports individuals through a detoxification program utilizing dietary changes, nutritional supplements, herbs, and hydrotherapy.
